September 5, 2007
We greatly appreciate the help of Phil and Penny Hinck of The Jersey Shore Running Club for their organizational skills for Kortney's Challenge for the past two years. We couldn't have done what we have without their expertise and guidance.
Over 500 registrants signed up for the second annual Kortney's Challenge. The weather was hot but that didn't dampen the spirits of the walkers/runners that came to participate. We had several very special walkers. Two boys who are brain tumor survivors participated. Jimmy brought his family and a couple of teachers with him from Pennsylvania. These teachers took up a collection from the other teachers and made a large donation the day of the challenge. Tony brought his mom to walk with him and his grandfather was instrumental in helping set up that day. It meant so much to have these boys participate as they and children like them are why The Kortney Rose Foundation raises money. Their survival is thanks to treatments that have come about from previous years of research.
The coach of Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) sprint team heard about our event and thought it was such an important cause that they passed on a meet to join us. Thanks Karl!
Justin C. was the first male finisher and Chelsea A. was the first female finisher. The people at the head of the pack were runners adding a slight competitive component. The majority of the participants were families who were walking.
Since it is a flat, two mile course it is a great event for walkers and runners of all types. Parents are able to push strollers or pull wagons. The pet parade was still with us again this year as children carried their favorite stuffed animals in honor of Kortney's love of all animals, stuffed or real.

The Kortney Rose Foundation donates all miles walked in Kortney's Challenge to the International Brain Tumor Alliance's "Walk Around The World For Brain Tumors."
All of the miles walked by participants in the 2007 Kortney's Challenge were donated to The International Brain Tumor Alliance's (IBTA) Walk Around The World For Brain Tumors. Their goal was to collect 40,000 miles which is the circumference of the earth at the equator. They actually collected more than twice that amount.
The IBTA is a London based alliance that does not raise money but helps to raise awareness of brain tumors. You may see photos of Kortney's Challenge 2007 featured on their website at www.theibta.org/index.php?page=recent-events
