A very special thank you to all of the school directors, school administrators, teachers, parents, and children that helped to make our first year (2008) of The Kortney Rose Foundation's School Program - Kortney's Coins for a CURE so successful.

The Kortney's Coins for a CURE Program was held in 5 schools in 2008. Some collected for two weeks, three weeks or the entire month of May to symbolize National Brain Tumor Awareness Month. The beauty of this program is its flexibility. Any time frame that fits into a school or group's schedule can be used.

Counting Coins With the assistance of very generous parents and teachers many young children were introduced to, or reminded of, why it is good to give to kids in need. Children were asked to collect change either in plastic banks donated by Commerce Bank or in sandwich bags. Once returned to the school on the due date, the money was picked up and tallied and then signs were posted in each school to celebrate the total raised.

For the pre-schools we tallied a total for the entire school. Wolf Hill Elementary School in Oceanport (Pre-K through 4th Grade) developed their own way to integrate Kortney's Coins for a CURE Program into their curriculum. (For Details on how to build it into your curriculum at your school please call me.)

stacking coins This program will allow us to spread awareness about the growing prevalence of brain tumors and the fact that they are the #1 cancer-related killer of children 19. Private funding from organizations like the Kortney Rose Foundation is needed as the government continues to cut funding for desperately needed research. If you or anyone you know might be interested in having us speak with school officials or group leaders about how the program works, please call Kristen Gillette at (732) 222-1491 or Contact Us by email.
