Crabby Mara was a crabbing business started by 13 year old Mara in the summer of 2007. The following is quoted from her website, www.crabbymara.com.
"This is a business where I catch and clean crabs right off of my dock on the Shrewsbury River. Then I deliver them right to your door. The purpose of this business is to raise money for the Kortney Rose Foundation. Kortney Rose Gillette was a friend of my little sister's. She had a Pediatric Brain Tumor and died on April 27, 2006. She was only 9 years old. This organization was started by Kortney's mother, Kristen Gillette, and is dedicated to raising funds to support research and education related to the cure and treatment of Pediatric Brain tumors. 50% of my proceeds will go to her foundation. My goal for the first year of Crabby Mara is to raise 200 dollars."
Mara's younger sister, Olivia, was on Kortney's soccer team that I coached the fall before she was diagnosed. Olivia helped a lot in the business too as the Marketing Director. At the end of the summer, Mara gave the Kortney Rose Foundation a check for $700.00. Her grandfather matched and gave $750.00 as did family friends another $750.00. Mara then donated another $100.00 at the end of the season. News of her philanthropy spread and she did several interviews for both local television stations and area periodicals. Mara was recently honored as a "Junior Humanitarian" by one of the oldest and most prestigious area organizations, The Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC), for her work on Crabby Mara. The man who was also honored at the ARC dinner matched her profits and sent KRF $2,000.00. It is a wonderful story of big things done by two little girls who wanted to help someone else and saw their mission through. We are so grateful for their efforts. Their hard work will go far for research.

Please use GoodSearch and designate The Kortney Rose Foundation as your charity. Each time you do a search on GoodSearch, they will give our charity 1 cent per search. You can see above that the money can really add up. People were using it a lot in July and August, but it really slacked off after that. Please remember to use it and tell your kids to use it for their school work as well. This is free money for research!
At this time GoodSearch doesn't work on Aol. Unfortunately I have AOL but I log onto Internet Explorer when I want to do some searches. You can set GoodSearch as one of your search engines on your toolbar. It's quick and easy to do. Just visit www.goodsearch.com to follow the easy steps. Make sure every time you use the search engine that The Kortney Rose Foundation appears in the "Your Charity" box or it won't add up for us.
They also have GoodShop now so that when you shop online they will also donate money to the foundation. Visit www.goodsearch.com for details. Thanks for your support!
COMMERCE BANK
If you haven't linked your account(s) to The Kortney Rose Foundation Affinity Network please do so ASAP. When I mention it to people, they are interested and want to do it, but then must forget. We only have four households signed up at this point.
NO MONEY COMES OUT OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. I DO NOT KNOW WHO HAS SIGNED UP OR ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.
It is a simple matter of going to your branch and telling a customer service representative to link your account(s) with The Kortney Rose Foundation Affinity network. At the end of the year, Commerce pays money to the foundation based on the total balances in the linked accounts. The more accounts linked, the greater the percentage they pay out. More free money for research. Please take the time to do this. It is really easy! Thanks!
