November 1, 2009 - TEAM KORTNEY runs it's first ING New York City Marathon-Thanks to Mr. Grassi for the idea of applying to be a charity and for organizing a letter writing campaign by the Wolf Hill 6th grade English classes. The Kortney Rose Foundation was fortunate enough to be named as one of this premiere event's offical participating charities. We were allotted 20 slots for marathon runners who wanted to run the marathon and raise money for our cause. Unfortunately a couple of runners could not participate due to injury, but of the 16 runners who started all finished. Many were first time marathoners. Our TEAM KORTNEY members were motivated to not only run, but also to raise money. Our team members raised over $56,000 for pediatric brain tumor research. That is phenominal! Thank you to those runners for their commitment to themselves and to our mission. And thank you to all of those who donated!

On August 30, 2009 about 500 participants joined us for the 3rd Annual Kortney's Challenge 2 Mile FUN Run/Walk. This was Monmouth Park's second year of graciously hosting our event. After the walk/run event there were many free kid activities. Then it was in to our own picnic area for a Day at the Races. The Oceanport PBA helped organize and did all of the cooking for this fun-filled event. Everyone enjoyed food, drink and a day of races including the 8th race which was run in honor of The Kortney Rose Foundation. All of our supporters were able to gather in the winner's circle to watch the race and then a few of us gave the winning trophy to the horse, jockey, trainer and owner. Much thanks goes out to Monmouth Racetrack, the Oceanport PBA, our corporate sponsors and participants. Join us in 2010!

On June 30, 2009 many came to the annual BlueClaws Game. We had both a picnic area with food and regular admission seats available. Thanks very much to Bob Yunker who organizes this event every year! In addition to the fun we had at the game, 20 volunteers from the Long Branch Post Office worked at the snack bars on another night which also earned money for the foundation. Thank you to all who volunteered and all who attended!

Other 2009 Fundraising Activities - People are so generous and come up with the most unique ways of donating to our foundation. Thank you to you all for giving of yourselves!
Two women who had very long hair got their hair cut and donated the hair to Locks of Love in Kortney's name - Barbara Corrigan donated 19 1/2 inches of hair and her friend Hollie McLean donated 10 1/2 inches.
Birthday Donations: All of the Donohoe children gave instead of receiving on their birthday in 2009. Instead of giving each child a "goody bag" their family donated a certain dollar amount, per child, to The Kortney Rose Foundation. Both Gabby S. and Christian V. celebrated their 10th birthdays but instead of asking for presents for themselves asked for family and friends to donate to The Kortney Rose Foundation. Julia F. celebrated her Basmitzva and donated money she had received as gifts to our foundation. We thank these children on their wonderful examples of unselfishness. Speaking of birthdays, Mimi B., who is a child at heart, also celebrated her birthday by asking friends/family to donate our charity.
Three sisters who were friends with Kortney came up with a unique idea to raise money for the foundation. They put together a "show" and charged their friends admission to see the show. Their friends enjoyed the production while also feeling good about giving to charity. Great idea!
Brownie Troop #1172 closed their bank account and donated what was in there to The Kortney Rose Foundation.
Monmouth University Bowlathon - The Monmouth University Community Service Club organized this fundraiser that raised about $1,200 for pediatric brain tumor research. Thank you to all of the students in that club and to all of those who came out to bowl. In addition to thanks for this fundraiser we would like to thank all of the students who have volunteered with our organization from your club over the past couple of years.
Monmouth University Annual Greek Week "Penny Wars" Competition and Volunteering-Once again we are grateful to the Monmouth University student community. Not only did the fraternities and sororities (Greeks) collect change in their annual penny wars but the entire community also volunteered to help us stuff 10,000 envelopes. I cannot imagine having to do this project without their help! Thank you for your help and donation!
Much gratitude goes out to Ian Craig and Robin Craig. A brother and sister who both excelled and graduated from Monmouth University, were former presidents of The Community Service Club, and were outstanding volunteers. Their large amount of volunteer hours made them eligible to be rewarded not for themselves, but for a charity of their choice. We were surprised and enthused to be the recipients of donations from the Disney EARS Program in Ian's anf Robin's names.
Donations were made in memory of several loved ones in 2009. Thank you to the families and friends of Marge Skripek, Agnes Highland and (my dad) Donald R. Schreiber. We appreciate that you thought of supporting our foundation at such a time and we hope to honor their memories as we do Kortney's.
Lily A. and her mom have started a hand crafted jewelry & whimsical wine charm business featuring local sea glass. They made and sold their items at the Oceanport Holiday Festival and donated half their profits to our foundation.
Evan C. held an information and donation table at his church to help raise awareness about our foundation mission and to help raise funds. He did an excellent job at doing both.

For the third year in a row Bobby Yunker worked diligently to put the event together, get volunteers for the snack bar and sell tickets. This year a private picnic area was added as an option to the regular tickets. With a wonderful buffet and the ability to walk around and socialize this was a wonderful addition. Thanks Bobby for all you've done!!
Much gratitude also to Mike Lomazzo of World Subaru of Tinton Falls who helped the Kortney Rose Foundation get much more exposure at the game. Usually only mentioned once or twice during the night, this year Mike arranged for the World Subaru logo and the Kortney Rose Foundation logo to be displayed on the scoreboard throughout the course of the evening. The foundation name and mission were read several times as well. We cannot thank Mike, Kenny Schwartz and all of those at Pink Rose Sponsor Corporate Sponsor World Subaru enough for all of their support over the past three years!
